Exhibition of Sixty-One Members of the Akureyri Art Society
A diverse group of visual artists is active in Akureyri, reflecting the growth and vitality of the visual arts. Contemporary art is layered – at once personal, multifaceted, and complex. The themes addressed are diverse, engaging with existence in a complex world through the methods and means of visual art. The different forms of artistic expression are brought together in this exhibition, where sixty-one members of the Akureyri Art Society offer us an insight into their visual worlds.
The Akureyri Art Society was founded in January 2008 and is one of the member associations of the Icelandic Visual Artists Association (SÍM). It currently comprises just over 100 visual artists, most of whom live in Akureyri or elsewhere in North Iceland, though artists may apply for membership regardless of their place of residence. The society brings together a diverse group of artists whose work reflects the flourishing state of visual art in Iceland.
The society runs Mjólkurbúðin, its own exhibition space in Listagil in Akureyri, and strives to present progressive and varied exhibitions by both Icelandic and international artists, alongside exhibitions of works by its members. This is the fourth time that members of the Akureyri Art Society exhibit their work in Hof.
