Current JoysCurrent Joys is the enigmatic solo project of 25-year- old Henderson, Nevada born songwriter Nicholas Rattigan. In addition to his minimal two-piece band with Jacob Rubeck, Surf Curse, Rattigan has been releasing a prolific catalog of heart-wrenching no wave ballads via Bandcamp under a handful of names (including the Nicholas Project and Tele/visions), eventually choosing Current Joys as the permanent moniker, based on a song by folk-artist liam the younger of the same name.

Amyl & The SniffersSince forming in Melbourne’s sticky pub-rock scene in 2016, Amyl and the Sniffers have become masters of balancing power and playfulness. With two critically acclaimed albums under their belt - 2019’s self-titled debut and 2021’s visceral ‘Comfort To Me’ - vocalist Amy Taylor, guitarist Declan Mehrtens, bassist Gus Romer and drummer Bryce Wilson have achieved something unique and remarkable. Since the release of Comfort to Me, the band has seen their horizons broaden exponentially in every way. And it’s this attitude - bigger, brighter, smarter, sharper - that’s fuelling their third album, ‘Cartoon Darkness’. Recorded with producer Nick Launay at Foo Fighters’ 606 Studios in Los Angeles, on the same desk that captured Nirvana’s Nevermind and Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, the latest Amyl offering is full of surprises. Musically, Mehrtens, Romer and Wilson have written The Sniffers’ most diverse album yet. It stretches from classic punk to the glammy strut of recent single ‘U Should Not Be Doing That’ to the stormy balladry of ‘Big Dreams’ and beyond. "Cartoon Darkness is driving head first into the unknown, into this looming sketch of the future that feels terrible, but doesn’t even exist yet. A childlike darkness," says Amy Taylor. Einstürzende NeubautenEinstürzende Neubauten is an ever-changing musical entity, originally formed in Berlin, Germany, on the 1st of April of 1980. Neubauten were initially seen as part of the second wave of industrial bands, filling the space left when Throbbing Gristle terminated their mission. Neubauten's early output fit the term "industrial" well, as it (ab)used the sounds of machinery, metal-on-metal, construction-site equipment, and treated tape loops, creating harsh soundscapes and rhythmic textures reminiscent of krautrock. Their inclusion on the record label Some Bizarre, with acts like Foetus, Coil, and Test Dept., consolidated this position as new industrial pioneers.
However, Neubauten soon outgrew the confines of even the broad scope of industrial music. In their 25-plus years, they have produced a dozen studio albums, live records, a remix album and EP, scored theatre pieces, and more.
Lead vocalist Blixa Bargeld is perhaps the best-known member of the group, both for his work with Neubauten and as guitarist for Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. His fellow founding members Alexander Hacke and N.U. Unruh have likewise been active in various musical roles outside the group over the years.
Bassist Mark Chung was a member of the group from 1981 to 1994. He founded the publishing house Freibank Music Publishing to handle business affairs for Neubauten and other groups, and has continued in this role (concurrently serving as a senior vice-president of Sony Music International for nine years). Percussionist FM Einheit was a member from 1981 to 1995, and has also been active as a solo artist and member of groups such as Gry.
Since 1997 the group has also included guitarist Jochen Arbeit and percussionist Rudi Moser.
Neubauten's most recent work has been available exclusively to subscribers to their online home, www.neubauten.org. Neubauten completed the third incarnation of their online project in November 2007 and are currently planning a tour of Europe in 2008 in support of their new album, Alles Wieder Offen. -

HTRKAustralian cult favorites HTRK first emerged in the mid-2000s with a bleak yet beguiling form of electronic post-punk marked by dirge-like drum machine rhythms and sensuous vocals. Initially exploring a deconstructed noise-rock sound on releases like their 2005 debut Nostalgia, the group's sound became more refined, as well as more emotionally resonant in the following decade, with albums like 2014's Psychic 9-5 Club and 2019's Venus in Leo. As time went on, HTRK developed an increasingly organic approach, particularly on 2021's spare, acoustic guitar-based Rhinestones. HTRK -- pronounced "Hate Rock" and also known as Hate Rock Trio -- formed in Melbourne, Australia in 2003. After their former group, Portraits of Hugo Perez, disbanded, bassist Sean Stewart and guitarist Nigel Yang recruited vocalist Jonnine Standish with the aim of creating a project like the Birthday Party, with slow, mechanical repetition (courtesy of a drum machine and Jonnine playing percussion), simplistic basslines, and deafening guitar feedback. Their aesthetic clashed drastically with the '80s rock revival scene that was becoming popular in Australia, and their early shows harbored mixed reviews. The trio followed its love of Krautrock to Berlin, Germany, and recorded a demo. Titled Nostalgia, the disc was self-released in a limited run of 500 in 2005. Two years later, U.K. label Fire Records gave Nostalgia a proper release, and the group settled in London. Soon after, the trio started recording its first full-length, Marry Me Tonight, with former Birthday Party guitarist Rowland S. Howard. Blast First Petite issued the album in 2009. Tragedy struck in 2010 when Stewart committed suicide at age 29. Yang and Standish reluctantly carried on, signing with Ghostly International and releasing Work (Work, Work) in September of 2011. Although stripped down and less feedback-drenched than their earlier work, it was already halfway completed prior to Stewart's death and reflects his influence. Following 2012's Part Time Punks Radio Sessions, a split EP with Tropic of Cancer, HTRK returned in 2014 with their third studio album, Psychic 9-5 Club. Intimate and sensuously minimalist, it truly marked a new beginning for the group, producing some of their most affecting material. Another five years passed before the release of 2019's romantic, richly envisioned full-length Venus in Leo. Also in 2019, HTRK composed an all-instrumental soundtrack to the scientology documentary Over the Rainbow.
