OBSCURA are one of Germany’s most influential extreme metal bands, known for redefining technical death metal through precision, melody, and forward-thinking composition. Founded in 2002 by guitarist and vocalist Steffen Kummerer, the band have released seven critically acclaimed studio albums and performed over 800 shows across four continents.

With releases such as Cosmogenesis, Omnivium, Akróasis, Diluvium, and A Valediction, OBSCURA earned international recognition, high chart placements worldwide, and a reputation as a formidable live act. Their music bridges technical complexity with memorable songwriting, pushing the genre beyond established boundaries.

Their latest album A Sonication (Nuclear Blast) marks the second chapter of an ongoing conceptual trilogy. The album refines OBSCURA’s signature sound while expanding it with broader dynamics, modern production, and thematic depth. Mixed and mastered by Fredrik Nordström at Studio Fredman, A Sonication represents a new era for the band both musically and visually, with artwork by acclaimed artist Eliran Kantor.

Now touring worldwide as part of the A Sonication World Tour (2025–2027), OBSCURA continue to stand at the forefront of modern extreme metal, combining innovation, discipline, and intensity on stages around the globe.

With riffs that weigh a ton, sophisticated arrangements and an all-out DIY ethos, Thus have become an underground favourite in the metal sector since the band formed five years ago with songs like “Inhale The Ash” (2023) and “Incorporeal” (2024). The four Danes fuse technical death metal with progressive structures and monstrous melodic lines to create an insane concoction of handmade, brutal walls of sound that offer no escape. The impact of their debut EP “The Terminal Condition Of Existence” (2024), released last year, was still being felt weeks after its release across the Atlantic, where Thus have already amassed at least as many fans as in Europe. So it should surprise no-one that the trio triumphed at the Wacken Metal Battle 2024 and have since slowly but surely outgrown their insider tip status through word of mouth. But if you want to learn more about how they managed it, you’ll have to see them in action.
