On the occasion of Culture Night, entry to the Reykjavík Museum of Photography will be free from 13:00-21:00 on 22 August.
Two exhibitions are currently on display at the museum. The exhibition "Heartstrings: intimacy in the everyday" and the exhibition "Street scenes".

In “Heartstrings: intimacy in the everyday”, photographer Þórdís Erla Ágústsdóttir seeks to capture the intangible aspects of daily life in people’s homes and other places that are meaningful to them. She focuses on the relationships and emotions shared between individuals. Nature forms an inseparable part of the environment and plays a shaping role in people’s emotional lives and actions. To demonstrate how deeply intertwined these elements are, Þórdís Erla presents powerful atmospheric images of the Icelandic landscape alongside photographs of people.
Þórdís Erla has photographed her subjects, most of whom are close friends or people she knows well, over extended periods of time. She selects moments from everyday life, small instances that tell a larger story.
The exhibition “Street scenes” by members of Fókus – The Amateur Photography Club is currently on display in Skotið. “Street scenes” is the fifth exhibition by members of Fókus to take over the exhibition space Skotið at the Reykjavík Museum of Photography.
The exhibition draws inspiration from a line by an Icelandic writer Indriði G. Þorsteinsson: “Roads lead in all directions, and on them there will be partings.” This sentiment echoes the essence of street photography—moments encountered in passing, shaped by chance, movement and human presence.
Often described as the father of the genre, Henri Cartier Bresson captured its spirit succinctly: “It is that creative fraction of a second when you are taking a picture… You must know with intuition when to click the camera. That is the moment when the photographer is creative.” "Street scenes" celebrates this fleeting, intuitive act, presenting images that reveal the subtle narratives unfolding in public spaces.
