In My Language: Shadow Puppetry – Multilingual Storytelling Workshop
Sunday October 11th at 1-3 p.m., Hafnarborg and GETA invite you to a multilingual storytelling workshop where participants will tell a short story about “A dreamy day in the life of…” the characters we build together. While creating our puppet characters with various materials we develop ideas for short stories which we then perform with the help of each other, using the simple and magical means of shadow puppetry.
Children and adults are invited to work together in building a story to share with the other participants of the workshop. Migrant children and families are encouraged to use their mother tongues for creating their stories. The workshop is led by Tess Rivarola and Anne Rombach in Spanish, Icelandic, English and German.
The workshop will take place on the ground floor of the museum. It's open to individuals of all ages and skill levels, but children should be accompanied by a parent or guardian. As always, participation in workshops and entrance to the museum's exhibitions is free of charge.
In My Language is a series of events aimed at increasing access to Hafnarborg for people of diverse backgrounds by welcoming guests in multiple languages. The event is a collaboration between Hafnarborg and nonprofit organisation GETA that promotes inclusion and positive multiculturalism through a variety of events and social initiatives. The programme is supported by the Museum Fund.
Tess Rivarola is a South American artist and social psychologist currently residing in Seyðisfjörður, Iceland. In her work she seeks to connect and strengthen community ties through art. Her roots as an artist are in physical theater and poetry. Her path with the language of puppets has begun in squares and communities in Paraguay, touching on uncomfortable issues for society, such as various forms of violence, climate change and corruption in politics.
Anne Rombach studied photography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig, Germany, and graduated with an MA degree in Fine Art and an additional diploma in “Listir og Velferð / Arts and Welfare" from the Iceland University of the Arts. She has co-hosted several art workshops during her collaboration with the organisation GETA.
