Dass SLAUGHTER TO PREVAIL ein weltweit einzigartiges Phänomen sind, beweist die Band um Sänger Alex Terrible mit ihrer Musik und Prägnanz wieder und wieder. Ob mit den bedrohlichen Bühnenmasken, dem umstrittenen Image ihres Sängers oder ihrem aggressiven und extremen Deathcore-Sound: SLAUGHTER TO PREVAIL haben den Erfolgsbegriff innerhalb der modernen Metal-Szene mit Songs wie „Demolisher“ und „Baba Yaga“ ab 2019 neu definiert. Seit dem Release ihrer ersten Single sorgt die Band, die ursprünglich aus Russland stammt, mit regelrechter Kompromisslosigkeit weltweit für Furore. Mit dem aktuellen Album „Grizzly“ bringen SLAUGHTER TO PREVAIL den modernen Deathcore-Sound abermals auf ein neues Level und sind längst zu einer der angesagtesten und erfolgreichsten Bands ihres Genres geworden. Anschließend an die bisher größte Tour ihrer Karriere kehren SLAUGHTER TO PREVAIL im August für zwei Shows zurück nach Deutschland und werden die Saarbrücker Garage sowie das Stuttgarter LKA Longhorn unsicher machen.
2014 gründete Aleksandr Shikolay (aka Alex Terrible) die Band SLAUGHTER TO PREVAIL mit dem britischen Gitarristen Jack Simmons (ehemals Acrania) sowie drei weiteren Mitgliedern. Zunächst in Jekaterinburg beheimatet, unterschrieb die Band nach dem Release ihrer Debüt-EP „Chapters Of Misery“ bei Sumerian Records und machte mit dem Song „Hell“ großflächig auf ihren mächtigen Deathcore-Sound aufmerksam. Seit dem Release ihres Debütalbums „Misery Sermon“ sind SLAUGHTER TO PREVAIL von einem Geheimtipp längst zu einem Anwärter geworden, um künftig die Spitze der modernen Deathcore-Welt einzunehmen. Das zweite Album „Kostolom“ brachte sie auf internationaler Ebene in die Charts und multiplizierte ihren bisherigen Erfolg erneut. 2022 verließ die Band ihre Heimat in Russland, da sie nach dem regierungskritischen Song „1984“ politische Konsequenzen befürchteten. Seitdem in Orlando, Florida beheimatet, führten SLAUGHTER TO PREVAIL ihren Kreuzzug weiter und begeisterten die Welt mit Singles wie „Viking“ oder „Behelit“, die längst zu den erfolgreichsten Songs ihres aktuellen Albums zählen: „Grizzly“ erschien im Sommer 2025 und etablierte weitere Erfolgstracks wie das mit Ronnie Radke entstandene Stück „Imdead“ oder „Kid of Darkness“ und „Russian Grizzly in America“. Mit jenem Album im Gepäck tourten SLAUGHTER TO PREVAIL im Januar und Februar durch europäische Hallen und bewiesen mit ihren explosiven Live- und einer imposanten Pyroshow sowie grenzenlosen Moshpits, dass der Hype um sie nicht abflacht.

Slaughter To Prevail
Kostolom is the epic second LP from the duo Alex Terrible and Jack Simmons’ band Slaughter to Prevail. The album expands on the dynamic extremes of their 2017 debut, Misery Sermon — pairing Alex’s dark, cathartic lyrics with Simmons’ pummeling riffs and tense, cinematic solos. “We wanted to make each song for us stand out in a different way,” the guitarist says. “On some of the songs, we focused on wanting to keep it uptempo, building to a breakdown as the focal point. Other songs it was about groove or the chorus — ‘how can we make this melodic?’ The albums we love the most have those dynamics, and we want to use them to make each part hit harder.”
The songs evolved over several years, the first demos constructed shortly before the release of Misery Sermon. And they finally finished the material in late 2020, with everyone (Alex, Simmons, bassist Mikhail Petrov, guitarist Dmitry Mamedov) having tracked their respective parts at home. (Evgeny Novikov recorded his drums at a nearby studio in Moscow.)
Tracks like “Made in Russia” and “Head on a Plate” pile-drive their detuned riffs straight into your skull, offering a platform for Alex at his most menacing. But the frontman also stretches out across the record, adding clean choruses to anthems like “Baba Yaga” and “Your Only.”
Alex’s words — largely sung in Russian, with occasional bursts of English — are also more balanced than the bleak song titles may suggest. “The lyrics,” Simmons says, “are quite personal to anyone who listens, I think — of personal struggle, keeping a positive mental attitude and going through the shit to have a better life and achieve your goals.”
As always, Slaughter to Prevail aim to provoke you, even as they empower you. “We want something that causes an emotion — whether it’s good or bad, disappointment or excitement or whatever,” Simmons says. “We don’t want something that’s stereotypical.” -
