No country music icon possesses the depth, enigma, and songwriting gravity of Johnny Cash. And there is no artist better suited to honour and revitalise this legacy than global outlaw-country legend and enigmatic, stage-stomping entertainer Henry Wagons.

The resulting combination creates a unique show that is a majestic, and often hilarious, twang-filled ride through some of the world’s greatest heavyweight songs. In CASH: A JOURNEY THROUGH THE AMERICAN RECORDINGS, Henry Wagons guides audiences through the heart-warming, fun, and at times heart-wrenching stories behind Cash’s late-career renaissance, the iconic American Recordings albums.

Joined by his band The Tennessee Studs, Wagons performs essential cuts from across the series, including Solitary Man (Neil Diamond), I Hung My Head (Sting), The Mercy Seat (Nick Cave), Hurt (Nine Inch Nails), One (U2), and a couple of ol’ favourites from earlier in Cash’s career.

Together, Wagons and The Tennessee Studs recreate the sonic depth, restraint, and emotional poise of the original recordings, so vividly you will feel as though you are sitting beside Cash and Rubin in the control room, a fine whiskey in hand, wearing a quiet, knowing smile.

Henry Wagons is the mad professor of song. This mega-mind of classic song was, once upon a time, hurtling toward a career as a philosopher, but was derailed by a record deal, a thirst for whisky and insatiable passion for making music. There is no songwriter or entertainer who casts the same kind of ever-curious, startlingly present shadow on stage. The man is a master craftsmen of the stage, and takes his place upon it like no-other. With a career in music that has spanned quarter of a century, he has made six albums as benevolent dictator of the band “Wagons” and also four solo albums, as well as taking part in a slew of diverse side projects which includes hosting acclaimed weekly radio program “Tower of Song” on national broadcaster Double J. Henry is creative force that is now truly reaching the full extent of his powers. With many a grand scale project set to unfold in the next decade, Henry is a musical force you need to see.
