Jazz í Djúpinu // Kári Egils, Tumi Torfa & Nico

Tumi Torfason (trumpet), Kári Egilsson (piano) and Nico Moreaux (bass) perform together for the first time at Djúpið. They will play a large amount of original material by the trio in new and exciting arrangements, along with some favorite tunes from the jazz canon. Strong emphasis is placed on good interaction, listening, and the joy of playing.

Tumi Torfason is a trumpeter and composer active in the Icelandic music scene. He leads several projects centered on original music and improvisation based on it.

Tumi studied jazz performance at the FÍH Music School and the Royal College of Music (KMH) in Stockholm and is completing a master’s degree in instrumental composition at the Iceland University of the Arts.

Kári Egilsson has been active as a performer and composer in both jazz and pop. In 2023 he released the jazz album Óróapúls and is currently working on a new jazz record due next year. Kári has also released two pop albums. In 2024 he was named “Brightest Hope” at the Icelandic Music Awards. He graduated from the Menntaskólinn í Tónlist in 2021 and is now studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Nico Moreaux is a French bassist and composer who has lived and worked in Iceland in recent years. He has played with many of Iceland’s leading musicians and well-known international jazz artists such as Chris Cheek, Tigran Hamasyan, Jorge Rossy, and Jeff Ballard.

The Jazz í Djúpinu concert series takes place on Thursday nights at 8:30 PM during the summer of 2026. Djúpið is the basement of the restaurant Hornið (Hafnarstræti 15, 101 Reykjavík). The entrance to Djúpið is at the back, facing Bæjarins beztu. The entrance to the basement opens at 8:00 PM. Ticket price is 4.000 ISK, tickets are sold at the entrance and in advance. The concert series is organised by the Jazz Department of FÍH. Please note that there is no wheelchair access at the venue.

Performers
