Pulp
Formed 1978 in Sheffield, England and originally called "Arabacus Pulp", Pulp achieved sudden success some thirteen years after their formation and became known during the Britpop era as much for their music as for frontman Jarvis Cocker's antics (notably conducting a stage invasion during Michael Jackson's performance of Earth Song at the 1996 BRIT Awards). The band has gone through several changes, with the best known and most stable lineup being Cocker, keyboardist Candida Doyle (the longest tenured member aside from Cocker, joining in 1984), bassist Steve Mackey, drummer Nick Banks, guitarist/violinist Russell Senior and guitarist Mark Webber.
Achieving little success off the back of a Peel session in 1981, Pulp were finally able to release their debut album, It, in 1983. This album and its 1986 follow-up, Freaks, showcased a Pulp keen on Nick Drake (notably on the single My Lighthouse), with strong folk roots and little sign of the tendencies for storytelling and acid house music which would eventually bring forth success. After the release and commercial flop of Freaks, the band disbanded for a year, though formed a year later to record a third album, Separations. Delayed for three years after its recording, Separations showed Cocker's increasing exposure to acid house, featuring multiple synths, and a hit single, My Legendary Girlfriend, which helped Pulp's career start to rocket.
Their next single, Babies, which would eventually feature on 1994's commercial breakthrough His 'n' Hers, was the first example of the Pulp sound most listeners associate with the band--cheap synths, rolling guitars, and Cocker's deadpan vocals telling a story. His 'n' Hers, in sound, was lumped in with the Britpop movement of the time, receiving commercial as well as critical acclaim. However, it was the 1995 single Common People, awash with Britpop guitars, catchy keyboard lines and that trademark Cocker vocal performance, which finally saw them become known, eventually charting at number 2 in the UK charts. A successful appearance at Glastonbury that summer cemented their fame, and their success was subsequently confirmed by the album Different Class, which arrived at the peak of the Britpop movement and featured the UK hits Common People, Disco 2000 and Sorted for E's & Wizz.
Their last two albums, 1998's darker This Is Hardcore, an album that marked the end of the Britpop era, and 2001's more downbeat We Love Life were commercial successes, but Pulp were no longer as famous or as trendy as they had been in the height of Britpop, and following their curation of a music festival, Auto, in 2002, the band announced that they would be embarking on an "indefinite hiatus". Cocker has since announced that he is to embark on a solo career, making an appearence as the lead singer of the fictonal band The Wyrd Sisters in the fourth Harry Potter film, calling time on Pulp.
In 2003 former Pulp singer Jarvis Cocker and British electronica artist Jason Buckle started a side project called Relaxed Muscle. This began as "a laugh" between Pulp rehearsals, but developed once Jarvis realised he could have more fun with a new alter ego than he did as the public figure who could leap on stage to terrify Michael Jackson. In early 2003 Relaxed Muscle began playing gigs. They maintained anonymity by assuming the alter-egos "Darren Spooner" and "Wayne Marsden", respectively. Billing themselves as "the sound of young Doncaster", "Darren" claimed to have met "Wayne" while doing community service ("planting flowers") for burglary. Their fictional criminality fit the project well, with their songs about sex, gambling and domestic violence complementing the depraved character of Relaxed Muscle.
Cocker’s transformation into a violent, wife-beating drunk is ironic when you consider his trademark bookish, slightly effeminate image. When guesting on the celebrity television quiz Shooting Stars, Bob Mortimer jokingly called Cocker "the weed in tweed" and insisted that when throwing mini Babybel cheeses at a giant blow-up poster of Judy Finnigan for cash prizes, that he must do so "in the style of a girl". Cocker continued to avoid detection and, while on-stage as Darren Spooner, took to karate-chopping balsa wood and breaking sugar-glass bottles on other band members.
However, soon Cocker and Buckle's cover was blown while playing a gig in London, despite wearing full eye make-up and skeleton suits. Even with their identities revealed, the band continued playing gigs, capitalizing on their electronic sound to play the likes of Trash club on 20th October, 2003.

Curtis Harding
One of the most visionary artists in soul music today, Curtis Harding is proof of the strange magic that happens when musical prowess meets unbridled imagination. In the making of his fourth full-length, the Atlanta-based singer/songwriter dreamed up a batch of songs exploring the longing and unease of being far from home—a true-to-life reflection he soon expanded into an elaborate concept album about a pilot lost in space. The latest addition to an acclaimed catalog including his 2017 breakthrough Face Your Fear (co-produced by Danger Mouse), Departures & Arrivals: Adventures of Captain Curt merges the lavish scope of a space opera with the pure feeling of classic soul—ultimately bringing an even greater potency to his wildly eclectic sound.
Self-produced at Electric Deluxe Recorders (an Austin studio owned by Adrian Quesada of Black Pumas), Departures & Arrivals serves as the follow-up to If Words Were Flowers—a 2021 release hailed by the likes of UPROXX, who praised Harding for “making some of the best modern soul music out right now.” For Harding, the decision to handle production on his own stemmed from a deep desire to pursue his creative ideals without compromise or restraint. “I produced my first album so this felt like a return, although this time I was more confident and capable of sonically going where I wanted to go,” says Harding. “I really love the process of building worlds in the studio, doing what I want in the moment and experimenting with new sounds instead of doing the same thing over and over.” Mostly recorded live with a full band, Departures & Arrivals encompasses everything from moody space-funk to lush baroque-pop to otherworldly psych-rock—all while endlessly spotlighting Harding’s rich and captivating vocals and incandescent guitar work.
In a testament to the dazzling fluidity of his artistry, Harding arrived at the album’s premise by resolutely following his creative intuition. “Because I’m away from home so much of the time, a lot of these songs came from feeling adrift and wanting to get back to the ones I love,” he says. “I started envisioning this character who takes a journey and gets lost in space, then ends up traveling through different galaxies and dimensions as he’s trying to find his way back home.” Naming Ridley Scott among his favorite sci-fi auteurs, Harding notes that the extravagant world-building of Departures & Arrivals inspired many of his production choices, including the abundance of symphonic string arrangements supplied by Steve Hackman (a composer who’s worked with such diverse artists as Doja Cat and Andrew Bird). “I’ve always used strings on my records but never to this extent, and everything Steve created just took me to another place,” he points out.
Despite the astral setting of its storytelling, Departures & Arrivals remains firmly grounded in emotional realism thanks to the depth and honesty of Harding’s songwriting. To that end, a gorgeously joyful track called “True Love Can’t Be Blind” speaks to a love that endures across a great distance, telegraphing a euphoric infatuation in its radiant piano riffs and rapturous harmonies. One of the album’s most exhilarating moments, “Time” unfolds in smoldering horns and galvanizing call-and-response vocals as Harding offers reassurance to anyone losing faith. “When you feel alone it can be hard to see any hope, so I wanted to write an uplifting song about searching for the positive,” he says. “It might take some time, but if you keep pushing and put your best foot forward, you’ll get there.” And on “The Power,” Departures & Arrivals presents a timely disco anthem lit up in lustrous grooves and feverish strings. “In the context of the record, that song could be about trying to find the power that will bring me back home,” says Harding. “But it also plays into what’s happening politically right now, where the people in power keep taking from us without giving anything in return. I wrote that song to give people some kind of release and remind them that no matter what’s going on in the world you still need to live life and have fun doing it.”
With its tracklist ranging from the ornate romanticism of the album-opening “There She Goes” to the surreal grandeur of “Hard As Stone,” Departures & Arrivals marks the most complete manifestation yet of Harding’s expansive musicality. Born in Michigan but raised in Atlanta from age 14, he got his start singing and playing drums in church with his mother, a gospel singer who introduced him to seminal gospel acts like The Mighty Clouds of Joy. With his musical upbringing also including the Stax and Motown records his dad played at home, the ’90s hip-hop beloved by his sister, and the classic alt-rock favored by his friends, Harding started rapping at age nine and later moved on to writing songs after teaching himself to play guitar. In his early 20s, he began working in promotion for LaFace Records (an Atlanta-based label once home to legendary acts like OutKast) and quickly progressed to singing backup for CeeLo Green. After launching his own music career, he made his debut with 2014’s Soul Power and then delivered Face Your Fear—a genre-bending powerhouse that landed on NPR’s list of the year’s best R&B albums and soon found Harding touring with Jack White and taking the stage at major festivals like Lollapalooza.
Closing out on the reverb-drenched reverie of “Running Outta Space,” Departures & Arrivals ushers in a bold new era for Harding while staying true to the profound sense of purpose that’s always fueled his songwriting. “Sometimes when you’re feeling lost, hearing from someone else who’s felt the same way can let you know you’re not alone—that’s really the whole sentiment of the album,” says Harding. “I hope these songs help people to recognize that feeling lost is all part of the journey, and that the journey is what’s most important anyway. And once you realize that, you’re on the right path. You’re already on your way home.”

Alors Ultra Vomit est fait pour toi!
Alliant la puissance de la musique metal avec l'hilarisme (ou bien la marranture au choix) décapant du plus talentueux des comiques, Ultra Vomit est un groupuscule comme il n'en existe qu'un.
Ultra Vomit est un groupe tellement unique qu'il songe parfois à splitter pour être encore moins.
Fondé en l'an de grâce 1999 par alors l'humble lycéen Fetus, accompagné d'un acolyte appelé Brian, Ultra Vomit commence sa carrière tranquillement en révolutionnant complètement la musique.
Inventeur d'une nouvelle note de musique, appelée "sil", le groupe sort peinardement une démo 24 titres dont 24 énormes et se met à la recherche d'un batteur.
C'est alors qu'entre en jeu Manard qui à l'époque possédait un pseudo bien meilleur: Stickskiller.
Entendant cette démo, son sang ne fit que deux tours (car son sang est fan du saigneur des anneaux), et il se jura d'intégrer ce groupe fabuleux.
L'an de grâce 2000. Précisons que Manard a alors 20 ans et qu'il bénéficie de moultes réductions de 20% pour avoir 20 ans en l'an 2000.
Ces réductions, il n'en profite pas. Il préfère travailler dans l'ombre avec Fetus sur la nouvelle mouture d'Ultra Vomit.
De cette époque, les historiens retiennent beaucoup de soirées à mater des films gores, des nuits à regarder des films d'horreur, de journée à étudier des films d'épouvante, et donc beaucoup de musique inaudible.
Mais petit à petit le groupe se forge un son. Son son comme dirait Véronique.
Accompagné d'un jeune lascar de banlieue appelé Chris, le groupe concocte son premier album, "M. Patate".
C'est la révolution. Personne n'a encore jamais entendu ça.
Et c'est bien normal, car personne n'avait enregistré cet album avant.
26 min de pure violence agrémentée d'un humour absolument irrésistible. Les spécialistes ne s'y trompent pas, et Ultra Vomit gagne logiquement le grand prix du festival d'Avoriaz 86.
Mais cette reconnaissance ne saurait leur suffire.
Ultra Vomit décide de remettre son titre en jeu. Mais "M. Patate" étant un titre de merde, personne n'en veut.
Le groupe décide donc de virer son bassiste. Et là, c'est la révélation! Une nouvelle énergie, un talent décuplé! C'est avéré, dorénavant, le groupe changera régulièrement de bassiste pour éviter de devenir nul.
L'an 2005, Flockos intègre le groupe. D'abord, il est humilié au poste de bassiste. Mais très vite, le groupe comprend qu'un instrument aussi limité et inaudible n'est pas fait pour un homme aussi beau. Il décide donc de le promouvoir au poste de guitariste. C'est avec cette formation que le groupe enregistre en 2007 le successeur de "M. Patate", j'ai nommé "Objectif: Thunes".
L'album sort en 2008.
Immédiatement, c'est l'hécatombe. Partout des manifestations spontanées se forment, des gens pleurent de bonheur, certains se crèvent les tympans persuadés de ne plus jamais entendre de son aussi merveilleux, des scientifiques remettent en cause l'axiome de la ligne droite plus court chemin entre deux points, des méchants deviennent gentils, des femmes ne veulent plus faire le ménage, bref, c'est la révolution.
"C'est l'album de la consécration" titrera le célèbre magasine spécialisé Modes & Travaux.
Le groupe se met alors à parcourir la France. Pendant des semaines, des mois, des années, des siècles.
Au bout d'un moment, il en a plein le cul, et il arrête. Pendant des semaines, des mois, des années, des siècles.
Et il se met à composer en vue d'un nouvel album. Pendant des semaines, des mois, des... Enfin bon, vous avez compris le principe.
Se disant que 7 ans entre deux albums, c'est encore un peu juste, le groupe décide donc en 2015 de faire une petite tournée d'appoint. Peinardement. Juste pour montrer qu'ils ont encore la forme, la pêche, ou même le "swag" comme le dit son public qu'il ne comprend plus.
Accessoirement, ils en profiteront pour présenter leur 252ème bassiste et chercher un prétexte pour le virer dans 6 mois.
2 ans plus tard, les avocats de Matthieu Bausson tiennent bon. Ils ont rejeté toute sorte de prétexte comme "Matthieu a marché sous mon pied", "On peut pas être bassiste et s'appeler Bausson", ou même "Il sait même pas que i² = -1!" pour le renvoi définitif du bassiste.
Bon gré mal gré, c'est donc encore le bassiste du groupe.
Mais pour combien de temps?
Au moins le temps d'enregistrer le 3ème album.
Car oui, c'est désormais officiel, Ultra Vomit va sortir un 3ème album en 2017.
Ce même 3ème album dont l'existence était encore moins certaine que la matière noire.
Ce même 3ème album dont les Mayas avaient prophétisé la sortie en même temps que la fin du monde.
Ce même 3ème album dont tout le monde sait pertinemment qu'il sera forcément moins bien que le 2ème.
Oui, celui-là même!

La sortie mondiale française est prévu pour le début de l'année, et la tournée qui s'ensuivra sera la tournée qui vous fera oublier la tournée de Béberd au PMU en 92 quand il avait eu son CACES 3.
Alors surveillez bien l'actualité, car on risque bien de parler d'Ultra Vomit en 2017!

TodieforTo/Die/For is a Finnish gothic metal band. The band began in early 1999, when the musicians from the hard rock band Mary-Ann (which had existed since 1993) decided to change their musical style to gothic metal, modifying the band's name as well. In July of that year, after recording a self-financed EP entitled Deeper Sin, they signed a record deal with Spinefarm Records.
Their debut album - All Eternity - was released in Finland by the end of that year and the band then signed contracts with Nuclear Blast (for Europe) and Pony Canyon (for Japan). In 2000, the band toured Europe together with Dark Tranquillity, Sentenced and In Flames. Epilogue was released in 2001 and was followed by a tour with Lacrimosa.
The album Jaded was released in 2003 and in August of that year, vocalist Jarno Perätalo left the band. He assembled a new band named Tiaga, integrated by former members of To/Die/For. However, in 2004, Jarno Perätalo and the band Tiaga took the name To/Die/For for themselves, releasing the album IV in 2005.
To/Die/For is currently in the studio recording their fifth album, due for release in October 2006.
