Could we live differently in our cities?

Could we live differently in our cities? ποΈ
What if the places we call home could give us more than somewhere to live?
Could we share more while still having our own space?
Could where we live help create stronger connections and communities?
And what can we learn from people around the world who are already experimenting with different ways of living together?
On 27 August, join us at Hlemmur.Haus for a Totelly Evening exploring urban communal living.
This isn't a formal conference. It's an evening to hear, share, question and connect.
π TAISA MATTOS β INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVES
We're delighted to welcome Brazilian educator, researcher and international trainer Taisa Mattos, who has spent more than 15 years working with ecovillages, sustainability, education and community life around the world.
Taisa has coordinated and taught Ecovillage Design Education programmes internationally and, from 2019β2024, was Education, Consultancy & Research Coordinator at the Global Ecovillage Network (GEN International).
She is currently Gaia Schools Coordinator at Gaia Education, a Board Member of the International Communal Studies Association (ICSA) and author of Ecovillages: Building a Regenerative Culture.
Taisa will bring this international experience into a very local conversation:
What can communities around the world teach us about living differently β and what could those ideas mean for Iceland?
π‘ LOCAL VOICES & PERSPECTIVES
We'll also hear shorter contributions from people locally who are thinking about housing, community and different ways of living together.
These aren't formal presentations. They might be experiences, ideas, possibilities, challenges or questions worth bringing into the room.
π¬ OPEN CONVERSATION + Q&A
Then we'll open the conversation to everyone.
What could communal living look like in Iceland?
What could we share while maintaining our independence?
What can we learn from ecovillages, co-housing and intentional communities elsewhere?
And could the places we live help us build stronger communities?
π€ CONNECT
We'll finish with time for a drink, informal conversation and meeting others interested in these questions.
You don't need experience of communal living.
You don't need to have a project.
Come curious. Bring your experiences, ideas and questions.
