The Black Keys
The Black Keys are a two-man blues-rock group from Akron, Ohio, United States which formed in 2001, consisting of singer and guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney. The band name was inspired by a schizophrenic artist and friend in Akron, who used the term "black keys" to describe things he disliked or people he did not trust. The Black Keys have roots in traditional blues and psychedelic rock stylings.
They released their first album, The Big Come Up, in 2002, followed by Thickfreakness in 2003, and Rubber Factory in 2004. October 2005 saw the release of the DVD Live, recorded live at The Metro Theatre in Sydney, Australia March 18, 2005. In 2006 they released Magic Potion, as well as the lesser-known Chulahoma and a single version of Your Touch.
One of their trademarks is their preference for simple, lo-fi recording techniques. They refuse to use big-name studios, and do most recording, producing, and mixing themselves. Most of Thickfreakness was recorded in about 14 hours in Carney's basement, using only an early 80's Tascam 388 8-track recorder. Often, their recordings still have background noises (such as an owl hooting).
The Black Keys have achieved increasing critical acclaim and recognition since their debut album, which itself received praise from Rolling Stone magazine. Time magazine named them one of the "10 Best Acts of 2003" (behind OutKast and The White Stripes). They have supported a number of bands: they toured with Sleater-Kinney in 2003, had a short stint opening for Beck, have recently opened for Radiohead on the American leg of their brief 2006 tour, and performed at Lollapalooza in 2005 and 2007. In addition to this, they were also well-liked by influential British radio DJ John Peel and appeared on both Late Night with Conan O'Brien and The Late Show with David Letterman. Famous followers of the band include Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead, and Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammet. Matt Helders, drummer for the Arctic Monkeys, can be seen in a Black Keys T-Shirt in an interview on MTV's RAW.
The Black Keys have recieved a good deal of commercial recognition as well: 'Set You Free' was included on the soundtrack of the 2003 movie School of Rock, 'Girl is on My Mind' was used in a 2006 Sony Ericsson advertisement, which starred the tennis players Ana Ivanović and Daniela Hantuchova, and 'The Desperate Man' was used in a 2006 Victoria's Secret commercial featuring Heidi Klum. 'Your Touch' was featured in an episode of HBO's 'Entourage'. Their song "Your Touch" was featured in a 2007 Lee's jeans commercial. 'When The Lights Go Out' is the opening track in Craig Brewer's 'Black Snake Moan'
Their new record the Danger Mouse produced Attack & Release was out April 1st 2008. The duo's fifth it is the first one recorded in a proper studio.

Kasabian
* Ian Matthews - Drums & Percussion
* Christopher Edwards - Bass
* Jason Mehler - Guitar (only at live shows)
The band has been compared with the likes of Primal Scream, with their similar electronica-indie rock fusion and Oasis, with whom they share their confidence, vision, swagger and rough vocal style. Some influence can be seen from their days supporting Vitriol I.D.
It has been speculated that the name "Kasabian" is taken from the getaway driver (named Linda Kasabian) for the Tate murders committed by the Manson Family.
The band formed in 1999 in Leicester, England Their first album was simply "Kasabian", and in 2004 received lacklustre reviews. However, tracks such as Cutt Off and L.S.F (Lost Souls Forever) reached the UK top 10, and with 2 more top 20 hits and the album peaking at #4 in the UK Album Charts, they defied the critics.
Their new album, "Empire", was released on the 28th of August 2006. The first single from the album, also titled "Empire", was widely regarded as a musical success, with its change of beat reminiscent of "Take Me Out", and its catchy chorus. This was then followed by the release of the single, "Shoot The Runner" and most recently, "Me Plus One".

KelisKelis Rogers-Jones (born Kelis Rogers on August 21, 1979), is known simply by her first name Kelis (pronounced Kuh-lees). Her name is an amalgamation of her parents first names, her Black father Kenneth and Puerto Rican/Chinese mother Eveliss. Growing up in Middle Class Harlem, New York Kelis' childhood was not a deprived one. But she was not without problems, after her parents realised they could not cope with her unruly behaviour (Kelis shaved all her hair off at age 13, soon afterwards dyeing the regrowth the colors of the rainbow), Kelis moved out of the family home, continuing her private education.
After a short spell working as a model, 5'10" Kelis began appearing on songs by Neptunes produced rappers such as 'Got Your Money' by the late rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard. Soon afterwards, she released her debut album, Kaleidoscope in 1997 of which the first single was 'Caught Out There,' a song based on the time she caught her boyfriend cheating on her, and she beat him. The video feautures Kelis leading a pack of angry women down the street screaming 'I hate you so much right now!'. The album was released in USA, Europe and Asia, but did not find much audience in the USA. Not a great success, it only sold 249,000 copies to date.
After finding her largest audience in Europe, Kelis released her second album titled Wanderland (2001) in Europe only, which like her first album did not fare well. It only sold 80,000 copies and was entirely produced by The Neptunes (Pharrell and Chad Hugo) again, similairly to her debut. Singles released were 'Young Fresh N New', 'Get Even' and 'Popular Thug' of which there are two official versions one featuring Nas and one feauturing Pusha T of Clipse.
In 2003 Kelis finally found fame in her country with the single 'Milkshake,' which was a massive success in Europe, Asia and USA, and she began dating rapper Nas (born Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones). The single was from the album 'Tasty' which did not feature the Neptunes as heavily as her previous albums. Singles included the popular Dallas Austin produced 'Trick Me' and 'Millionaire', a collaberation with OutKast's Andre 3000. 'In Public'a duet with Nas was the fourth single from the album, becoming a top twenty hit in the U.K. without a video.
In 2006, Kelis presented a new album to her fans, entitled Kelis Was Here, which was originally to be called 'The Pupeteer' which was released on 22 August but was due Fall 2005. No Neptunes tracks appeared on this album, but Kelis used other producers such as Max Martin, will.i.am (Black Eyed Peas) and Raphael Saadiq. Singles are the huge 'Bossy', 'Blindfold Me', 'Circus' and 'Lil Star'. Kelis wrote more of the material on this album than she did for Tasty, and carries off the sci-fi, electronica sounds so often considered Neptunes material without them. This is most evident on the brilliant 'Trilogy'. Kelis has said she wants to make her mark with this album, as it will be the last 'album like this' she will make.
In October 2007, Kelis was dumped by Jive Records, for poor sales of Kelis Was Here but a new album is in the pipeline. The Hits - a greatest hits collection - was released in March 2008, including tracks where she was a featured artist.

Sigrid
Norwegian pop powerhouse Sigrid announced her highly anticipated third studio album, There’s Always More That I Could Say, to be released on 24 October 2025 on Island / EMI. An eclectic album bursting with emotions and the joy of creating, There’s Always More That I Could Say moves from dizzy infatuation to heartbreak and reflection with raw honesty and Sigrid’s signature soaring vocals and sky-high choruses.
Her latest release ‘Two Years’ shows Sigrid’s vast songwriting and co-production spectrum, following recent single Fort Knox, a euphoric anthem that transforms rage into power, and the playful Jellyfish, which Sigrid described as “easy, like a Scandinavian summer.” These songs mark a return to instinct-led music-making after Sigrid stepped back from the pressures of “content culture” in 2024. Solo trips to remote corners of Norway, festival sets in South America, reignited her creative spark, paving the way for this new chapter, There’s Always More That I Could Say. Full stop.
Sigrid’s discography is a testament to her ability to turn songs written at the piano into global pop forces, balancing vulnerability, power, and joy across every release. There’s the instant classic and breakthrough feminist anthem, Don't Kill My Vibe — her debut single that shouted independence over sky-scraping drum claps — and the disco strut of Mirror, channelling hard-won self-confidence into a glorious festival moment, and the top 10 smash Strangers tackled heartbreak with fearless honesty. That knack for forging gold in life's fires continues on Sigrid’s highly anticipated new music. Now 29, Sigrid is approaching love and loss from a wiser, more nuanced perspective.
This summer, Sigrid has returned to her favourite place - festival stages - and performed to thousands of fans across Europe. Sigrid also headlined the Second Stage at Latitude, one of the UK’s biggest artist’s hometown. The day after the performance, Sigrid was invited by the very man, Ed Sheeran, to play to 28,000 fans at Ullevaal Stadium in her home of Oslo. Ed's band rehearsed Sigrid's breakout hit "Don't Kill My Vibe", and the video went viral, now standing at over 4M views. Set to continue their fun on the road together, Sigrid has just announced she will be supporting Ed on his ‘Loop’ tour, joining him for dates across North America in July and August 2026.

Vengaboys
At times the Vengaboys come across like a cartoonish theatrical collective rather than an enterprising music group; however, pure entertainment has always been their core objective and you would be kidding yourself by downplaying this. Their zany/colorfully lit antics play just a crucial role as their pulsating dance tunes.

Freak SlugThe name Freak Slug encapsulates Xenya Genovese’s artistic world perversely and perfectly. Her releases under the name so far - debut 2020 EP Videos and its viral hit “Radio” (15 million streams and counting), and follow-up EPs I’m In Love (2022) and Viva La Vulva (2023) - might have introduced listeners to a “more summery, happy, LA sound”, but with the advent of debut album I Blow Out Big Candles, this Slug is burrowing down into evermore unlikely places. As she accurately points out: “The name is giving more grunge than joy”.
Hugely influenced by ‘90s cult heroes including Ride, Mazzy Star and Stephen Malkmus, Freak Slug is all about hitting a mood. Everything that fuels her creative output is raw, authentic, sometimes weird, but always totally true self-expression. I Blow Out Big Candles is a strong statement of all of this and more. Down there, picking through the curious mix of sounds and feelings, from nostalgic, 90s-influenced and dreamy as well as eccentric and experimental, lives Freak Slug.

Sleeper[1] Sleeper (formed in 1993) recorded three studio albums: Smart, The It Girl and Pleased To Meet You.
Their breakthrough song, Inbetweener, featured a memorable video with Dale Winton, who was a popular icon among students at the time. The group is closely associated with Britpop; frontwoman Louise Wener was arguably, along with Elastica's Justine Frischmann, the movement's biggest female star. She was even something of a sex symbol. By the time Pleased To Meet You was released in 1997, Britpop was fading, as was the band's audience. After their split (on 30 December 1998) Louise Wener went on to have a successful career as a novelist.
Sleeper also recorded a cover version of the Blondie song Atomic, which was used as a track in the film trainspotting. Their version was quite well-received and the only criticism is that it was too similar to the original.
The It Girl was arguably their finest moment with Lie Detector, Sale of the Century and Statuesque as the defining tracks. It was produced by Stephen Street then famous for his contributions to The Smiths, Morrissey and Blur. It captured the imagination of the Britpop era. Wener admits that they were basically hanging onto the coattails of the bigger bands including the likes of Blur and Oasis.
The original band name for the band was Surrender Dorothy. They took that name from the smoke trail telling Dorothy to surrender in the Wizard of Oz movie.
The band was the inspiration for the phrase "Sleeperbloke", referring to the disparity between the glamorous singer Wener and the other frequently ignored members of the band (who tended to be far more anonymous and stood at the back). The term is still used by music press journalists and musicians, to refer to any person of limited standing within a band or an especially drab and unremarkable individual. Sleeper were said to be amused by the term and even produced an ironic "Sleeperbloke" T-shirt which sold well.
The real-life Sleeperblokes were:
Jon Stewart (born Jonathan David Stewart, 12 September 1967 in Sheffield) — (guitarist)
Diid Osman (b. Kenadiid Osman, 10 April 1968 in Woking) — (bassist)

[2] "Sleeper is a auteur of claustrophobic, sample-based hip-hop production. His work, both as an accomplished musician, and as a respected tattoo and visual artist balances a breadth of spirit with worldly, emotional depth. Finding influence and community in the worlds of classic hip-hop and artistic, experimental rock, Sleeper fills his tracks with sound, leaving an MC with just enough room to create or with the luxury of saying more by saying less. His music is lo-fi with purpose: grainy sounds are used to lend atmosphere to larger, modern electronic sound collages, grimy drums sound out familiar hip-hop patterns beneath thick layers of sound. Sleeper is a craftsman in the truest sense of the word." -

Lottery Winners
Lottery Winners are the working class underdog story of the year.
Anxiety Replacement Therapy, the UK Number 1 album from the Lottery Winners not only topped the Official UK Album Charts, but is also the 5th highest selling first week album of the year, selling more copies in the UK that U2 and Miley Cyrus. The album has received worldwide critical acclaim and has connected with people in a special way.
The album tackles mental illness and ADHD in a biographical, chronological story of personal redemption. Songs like Letter to Myself, a song written to 12 year old Thom after getting expelled from school and feeling like a misfit, to tell him that everything is going to work out. ‘Worry’, ‘Long Way Down’ and ‘Sertraline’, a love song about an antidepressant also mark the more troubling parts of the record. As the album progresses, the mood lightens and songs like ‘Not Alone’ and ‘Let Me Down’ provide the comfort to Thom’s journey. Concluded with Anxiety Replacement Therapy, which poetically combines all of the other songs on the album. It truly is the band’s seminal moment.
Why do we listen to music? Why do we go to gigs? Because it’s an escape from our problems? To enhance and

Brooke Combe
"I can walk into those rooms full of established male musicians and not apologise for being there. Fuck that!” At 23 years of age, Scottish newcomer Brooke Combe is ready to call time on the accepted order of things, interrupting indie with an unapologetic attitude and a formidable roster of songs. A collection she has honed through a year of relentless gigging, each track on her forthcoming mixtape has its heart in a long lineage of funk and soul, a retro sound that has earnt her endorsement from the likes of the BBC, Rolling Stone UK, The Skinny and NME. It's a style that could easily come across as mere pastiche, but from the very first note of her rich vocal, there is no doubt that Brooke is carving her own path.
“For me, it’s about getting every tune I have done so far out of my head,” explains Combe. “This mixtape is a little bit about the naivety of my adolescent years, but it’s also a bit of a 'who is Brooke Combe', showing people all the different sides to my music. So many people have been coming to the shows now, they've been consistent and loyal. I want them to have what they've been hearing live and to see the development so far.”

Ben Ellis‘Does It Get Cold In California?’ asks Ben Ellis with his latest single. Probably not, but even if it did: the British singer-songwriter's energetic indie pop would generate warmth on its own, no matter where his audience listens to him. Still largely new to the international music scene, Ellis has already enjoyed considerable success on the relevant streaming platforms since last year with singles such as ‘Ed's House’ and ‘No One Sleeps In Hollywood’. The newcomer is in no way trying to hide his soft spot for Hollywood, its myths and aesthetics. ‘The Hollywood EP’ will be released this year and demonstrates with six sleek and dynamically produced catchy tunes that the young man is blessed with some potential for a lasting career. Now it's a question of how he wants to bring this to stages all over Europe.

Jessica WinterJessica Winter is an artist who doesn’t belong to one genre, scene or group, nor is confined by sound; but by song. Much of her childhood was spent gazing out of the window from her hospital bed due to hip dysplasia, which led to a very vivid imagination to grow. Taking inspiration from everyday life experiences, she explores sounds from the 80s, trap, indie and back around to pure pop.
