Endling - noun: an individual living thing that is the last survivor of its species or subspecies and whose death consequently means the extinction of that species or subspecies.

City Park has witnessed many chapters of Launceston's history, including a time when thylacines were housed within its grounds. This National Threatened Species Day, join us just metres from where they once lived for an intimate reading of a new 'tiger play' by Tasmanian playwright Jimmy Harrison: Endling.

Developed through Mudlark Theatre's 2024 Seed Program, Endling has continued to evolve with the support of acclaimed dramaturg Peter Matheson, making this staged reading a rare opportunity to experience a compelling new play as it continues its creative journey.

This National Threatened Species Day marks two poignant milestones: 90 years since the death of the last captive thylacine at the Beaumaris Zoo and 30 years since the day was established to honour Australia's extinct and threatened wildlife. Against this backdrop, Harrison's new play offers a compelling and spirited meditation on extinction, memory, and survival.

Join us for this very special Cinq à Sept, featuring the esteemed Michael Edgar leading a talented cast, as theatre, history and sense of place converge at an evening of conversation and new Tasmanian writing.
