Gilles Peterson is an influential DJ and record-label owner from Switzerland, who moved to London (England), as a boy. Through his labels Acid Jazz and Talkin' Loud he has been associated with the careers of countless well-known artists of the 1990s. He is also well known as a radio DJ: he used to have a radio show on London's Kiss FM dance music station, but was recruited to the BBC's youth-oriented Radio 1 in 1998. Peterson is known for his eclectic musical selections. Though not as "anything goes" as the late John Peel, he plays anything from dub and reggae through jazz, nu-jazz, soul, neo soul, R&B to drum and bass, house, broken beat, hip-hop and Jazz-funk.

Electronica artist Earl Zinger is actually none other than Rob Gallagher, who formerly led the Talkin' Loud label's acid jazz band Galliano. Zinger owns a well-crafted and impressive resumé. Unfortunately, it is highly fictional. It boasts of his associations with Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, William S. Burroughs, and other luminaries, while touting his influence over such musical artists as Bob Marley and Bob Dylan. Put Your Phazers on Stun and Throw Your Health Food Skyward, issued by K/7 in 2002, marked the fictional Zinger's debut. Gallagher, in his guise as Zinger, clearly has a sense of humor, which shows in everything from Zinger's songs to the interviews he refuses to conduct but which are given through a third party who supposedly knows him. ~ Linda Seida, Rovi
