Úlfur Eldjárn í Fríkirkjunni

Lutheran Free Church, Fríkirkjuvegur 5, 101 Reykjavík Directions

Sun 06.09.2026 20:00

Musician and composer Úlfur Eldjárn will be performing a grand concert at Fríkirkjan í Reykjavík on September 6th, 2026 at 20:00.

This will be an ambitious and highly unique event in every sense of the word. No effort will be spared — yes, we are talking strings, special effects, and spectacular guest performers.

The main focus of the evening will be brand new material Úlfur has been quietly composing for piano, electronics, strings, and various other instruments. A full-length album featuring this music is currently in the works, but listeners can already get a glimpse of the sound by checking out the single “Continuum”, released in 2023 and featuring Ólafur Björn Ólafsson on drums. The concert will also revisit selected works from some of Úlfur’s earlier projects, including Innsæi, The Aristókrasía Project, Reykjavík GPS, and perhaps even Where is Jón?, which recently received the Icelandic Music Award for Best Score. There is also a very real possibility that the magnificent organ of Fríkirkjan will be activated for a performance of “Rotations” from the album Field Recordings: Music from the Ether.

For those unfamiliar with Úlfur’s work, he has been active as a musician and composer from a young age and has created music for films, television series, theatre productions, podcasts, and various other media. In his solo projects he often ventures into unusual territory, such as the interactive piece The Infinite String Quartet, the location-based sound work Reykjavík GPS for downtown Reykjavík, and Hamraborgin – Ode to Noise, a film and concert work for seven drummers. He has composed works for Caput Ensemble and Cauda Collective, and created arrangements for the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. Úlfur is also one of the founding members of Apparat Organ Quartet and has collaborated with artists such as Jóhann Jóhannsson, Mugison, Valdimar, HAM, Vigdís Hafliðadóttir and his brother Halldór Eldjárn, among many others.**

Úlfur is more often than not buried with work deep within his underground studio and rarely emerges into daylight. This therefore represents a rare and welcome opportunity to experience his music in the beautiful surroundings of Fríkirkjan. Secure your tickets while you can!
