As if in a trance yet still guided by a lucid vision, green star craft alternative rock with opaque textures and a wonderfully gritty soundscape. These four Londoners create seething, blood-stained guitar music for dark times, conjuring cinematic scenes in the mind’s eye with just a few chords. A touch of noise, a veil of shoegaze, and the surreal atmosphere of a David Lynch film – on their debut EP, “Bleeding Swirls” (2025), released last year, this band weave these elements together to create the ultimate soundtrack for dreamers and thinkers, for dark days when retreat seems the most sensible option. Many sources of inspiration are audible here ranging from Sonic Youth and the Swirlies to Yo La Tengo and the Pixies, and the most delicate flavours of the 90s can be savoured in every nuance of green star’s material. This is something that very few bands manage to achieve with such stylistic confidence right from their very first release. Fans of raw, passionate songwriting and gritty pedal effects absolutely mustn’t miss this gig.
