Highclere Castle has been the Herbert family seat since 1679, sits in 5,000 acres of Hampshire parkland designed by Capability Brown and has been watched by over 200 million people worldwide as the filming location for Downton Abbey. The 8th Earl of Carnarvon, George Herbert, godson of the late Queen Elizabeth II, has been its custodian since 2001. He is also, it turns out, the man behind an award-winning gin brand, and this evening he brings it to Boisdale during Negroni Week to launch three new signature serves.
Each of the three Negronis draws directly from the Highclere estate. His Lordship's Marmalade Negroni uses Highclere Castle Gin with Antica Formula, Campari and Highclere Castle Seville Orange Marmalade, rich and citrus-forward. Her Ladyship's Honey Negroni replaces the vermouth with Dubonnet and adds honey from the Highclere Castle Estate itself, a smoother and subtly sweeter variation. The Original Highclere Castle Gin Negroni keeps it classic: gin, Antica Formula, Campari and orange bitters, the drink as it should be, made with a gin that has earned its place in it.
All three are paired with aperitivo-style canapés. Lord Carnarvon hosts the evening in person. Spaces are limited.
