Step away from the holiday stress that often accompanies the festive season and allow the spirit of Christmas to surround you.
During the exhibition In the Spirit of Christmas, we count down to Christmas from December 1st to December 24th. On display are watercolor paintings created on circular watercolor paper, and no two works are alike.
The calendar originally began as an experiment by the artist Alma, who wanted to step away from the bustle of Christmas preparations and take time to enjoy the present moment. The project encourages people to live in the presence during the busiest season of the year. It is safe to say that Alma achieved her goal, as family and friends followed the daily unveiling of the artworks on social media. The project culminated in a complete Advent calendar, which is now on display at Árbær City Library.
Alma Sigrún Sigurgeirsdóttir began painting at Ljósið, where she was undergoing rehabilitation following a cancer diagnosis. Ljósið is a rehabilitation and support center for people diagnosed with cancer and their families. Her long-standing interest in art was rekindled when Alma attended numerous courses offered by the center, including visual arts and art therapy. She has also completed two watercolor painting courses taught by artists Guðmundur Ármann Sigurjónsson and Ragnar Hólm.
Merry Christmas!
The exhibition runs until the 10th of January and the exhibition is available during the opening hours of the library.
