It didn’t take long after the release of his debut album, “Nights Like This” (2019), for Jack Gray to receive virtually non-stop airplay on Australian radio stations – a feat that very few manage to achieve at such a pace. The young singer–songwriter with the velvety-soft timbre not only authentically captures the Gen Z spirit in his songs, but also brings the spine-tingling melodies and the flair for anthemic arrangements of an established producer. Singles such as “Red Rental Car” (2017) and “I Got 3” (2020) racked up millions of streams on relevant platforms in no time at all and are celebrated by fans and music critics alike from Down Under and beyond. The classically trained multi-instrumentalist then toured across Australia and New Zealand with Tate McRae and later toured across the US with Matt Corby, consistently playing to sold-out venues. As expected, his second album, “If U Were Mine” (2024), is also a resounding success, but it is merely the start of a whole series of singles with which he is sure to cement his reputation as one of Australia’s most exciting up-and-coming songwriters in the years to come. The fact that he is not yet very well known in this country is likely to change for good, at the very latest after his gig here in Hamburg.
