Jóel Pálsson Trio at Djúpið

Saxophonist and composer Jóel Pálsson will perform at Djúpið with his trio, featuring guitarist Hilmar Jensson and double bassist Birgir Steinn Theodórsson alongside Jóel.

For many years, Jóel has been one of the leading figures on the Icelandic jazz scene, earning recognition for his distinctive and powerful playing. His music combines free improvisation, sensitivity, and a strong artistic vision. He has performed extensively both in Iceland and abroad and has released numerous works under his own name.

The program will feature original compositions in which the boundaries between written music and improvisation dissolve into a turbulent journey of uncertainty. The music creates space for the performers to respond to one another in the moment, allowing sound, silence, energy, and unexpected turns to become part of the composition itself.

The Jazz í Djúpinu concert series takes place on Thursday nights at 8:30 PM during the fall of 2026. Djúpið is the basement of the restaurant Hornið (Hafnarstræti 15, 101 Reykjavík). The entrance to Djúpið is at the back, facing Bæjarins beztu. The entrance to the basement opens at 8:00 PM. Ticket price is 4.000 ISK, tickets are sold at the entrance and in advance. The concert series is organised by the Jazz Department of FÍH. Please note that there is no wheelchair access at the venue.
