At the core of Katia Klose’s photographic work lies an exploration of reality, focusing on its sensual and poetic qualities. The documentary aspect intertwines with an inquiry into the hidden interconnections of human existence in dialogue with the environment and nature.
In her current project Between Visibility and Disappearance – Photographic Studies of the Ocean’s Dysphotic Zone she undertakes an artistic investigation of the ocean’s low-light region, where visibility becomes unstable and speculative. In presenting selected results from her artist residency in Ísafjörður, she combines contact prints made from archival images with the sound of the daily migration of billions of small fish, crustaceans, and squid rising from depths of 200 to 1,000 metres toward the surface during twilight.
Katia Klose, born in 1972 in East Berlin, lives and works as a freelance artist, lecturer, image editor, and photographer in Leipzig/Germany.
