It’s the grand narrative arcs that Larissa Rapold pursues as a songwriter. Moving from the intimate to the universal and back again, as frontwoman of the band Malummí, she explores social alienation as well as hard-won tenderness, loss as well as success. With their debut album, “The Universe Is Black” (2023), the project instantly found a distinct style that draws entirely new timbres, fresh arrangements, and harmonies from classic indie band instrumentation. Whilst the vocals and dramatic structure are reminiscent of PJ Harvey, the cascades of effects that are fired between guitars and drums often spark moments reminiscent of Big Thief and Wolf Alice. But there is more to it than that. Grunge, folk rock, alternative – a love of experimentation has been written into this Swiss band’s DNA from the very beginning and is relished to the full. Thus, their third album, “Damaged By Their Silence” (2026), also reveals new facets and different ideas. The sound is shaped by our era, driven by guitars and piano. It’s therefore high time that Malummí came to us here in Hamburg with their unique, thoroughly contemporary interpretation of alternative rock music. A live experience that will resonate for a long time to come.
