Chain of Humanity – A SONG THAT UNITES

Come join us in a chain of humanity at Austurvöllur on Thursday, September 24th at 12:15 PM.

We will gather in front of Hotel Parliament near Althingi and form a chain in solidarity with refugees; a chain representing, humanity, compassion and respect for the rights of all people.

The Chain of humanity is part of Amnesty International Iceland's campaign "Humanity Must Win - Respect the Rights of Refugees". Through the campaign, we want to remind people of what unites us all: human dignity, compassion and the fundamental principle that human rights apply to all of us, regardless of where we come from.

Music will be the heart of this solidarity action under the thme “ A Song That Unites.” Páll Óskar Hjálmtýsson will lead the chorus accompanied by Ásgeir Ásgeirsson. He will be joined by the Ljóti Choir, conducted by Nanna Hlíf Ingvadóttir, as well as the Huldur Chamber Choir and the University Choir. Everyone attending is encouraged to join in. Many different voices will come together in a song, in a spirit of solidarity and shared humanity. Participants in the Chain of Humanity will form a circle around a large yellow banner carrying the message:

HUMANITY MUST WIN – RESPECT THE RIGHTS OF REFUGEES

Anna Lúðvíksdóttir, Amnesty International's Executive Director, will also address the gathering.

At the end of the Chain of Humanity, signatures collected as part of Amnesty International Iceland’s petition, calling on the Icelandic authorities to respect and protect the rights of refugees, will be formally handed over to the government.
