The Nordic Association, in collaboration with the Nordic House, has invited Swedish historian Gunnar Wetterberg to Iceland this autumn to discuss his vision of a Nordic federation.

More than 15 years ago, Gunnar Wetterberg proposed the radical idea that the Nordic countries should unite in a single federal state, which would make them one of the strongest states in the world. He presented the idea in his book *The United Nordic Federation*.

When he first put forward the idea, he argued that, as the people of the Nordic countries were accustomed to living in independent states, it would take several years for the proposal to be considered in perspective. The dust has now settled, but the idea remains very much alive among those who want to keep the discussion going and explore the possibilities for closer Nordic cooperation, whether under the single flag of a federation or through closer cooperation in specific areas.

We are very pleased to finally welcome Gunnar to Iceland to discuss his idea and how it has developed over the years. Is a Nordic federation still a possibility? Gunnar will address this and other questions in conversation with participants at the Nordic House on Friday, 16 October, from 13:00 to 15:30.

The event will be held in English. Everyone is welcome!

Accessibility to the Elissu Hall is good, with a low threshold at the entrance to the hall. Further accessibility information can be found on the Nordic House website.
