Public Webinar - Rootshús: Building a Home for Our Shared Story

Please join us for this public webinar where we will hear about the construction progress of Rootshús, as well as be taken inside the plans for Rootshús. We’ll show the Emigration Trail, Saga Hall, Children’s Discovery area, library and collections, gathering spaces, and some of the technology and interactive experiences being developed.

We’ll also talk about what comes next as we move from construction into creating the exhibits, spaces and experiences that will bring Rootshús to life. The Rootshús Grand Opening is July 31, 2027.

A little history: On August 1, 2026, we broke ground on Rootshús. Since then, construction has moved quickly, and the building is beginning to take shape. Rootshús is being built on the historic homestead of Rev. Páll Þorláksson, directly across from Víkur Church, the oldest Icelandic church in North America. When it opens, it will be a living cultural and heritage center — a place to preserve our stories, explore the emigration experience, discover family connections, learn, gather, and welcome future generations.

Join us for an inside look at how far we’ve come and what is ahead.

The meeting time is:

10:00 AM Pacific,

11:00 AM Mountain,

12:00 PM Central +DST,
