Ride back to Faith

Austria | Documentary | 84 minutes | German, Italian

Director: Hermann Weiskopf

Cast: Hermann Weiskopf, Vanessa Weiskopf

In the Holy Year 2025, Hermann sets off on a pilgrimage to Rome on his Vespa to rediscover his faith. The journey begins in Innsbruck, at his father's grave. Forty years ago, after a heated argument with his father, Hermann turned his back on the church. Harsh words were exchanged, and leaving the church was intended to hurt his father. Since then, Hermann has hardly dealt with questions of faith.

What remains is a recurring guilty conscience: towards his now deceased father, but also towards the existential questions concerning God and faith. The pilgrimage to Rome therefore seems to him the right opportunity to reflect on missed opportunities and chances that have shaped his life.

“On the Road” through Tyrol and Italy, Hermann meets a wide variety of people and talks to them about their views on faith – today and through the ages. Hermann is repeatedly haunted by nightmares and feelings of guilt. Back in Innsbruck, the spiritual journey takes an unexpected turn in St. Jakob's Cathedral...
