margins – Performance on Closing Day

Sunday November 1st at 4 p.m., a performance connected to Gabi Schillig’s work soft doubles / spatial echoes will take place at Hafnarborg on the closing day of the museum’s Autumn Exhibition, margins. The performance explores the relationship between body, material and space, as the performers approach Gabi’s work on their own terms and find their own connection to the material. Their interaction with the work also opens up connections to other works and to the exhibition space itself.

In her work, Gabi considers how body and space constitute each other and works with the notion of soft architecture, where softness becomes a means of reconsidering ideas of cohabitation and care. The performers are Íris Ásmundar and Sara Lind Guðnadóttir. The performance was first presented at the opening of the exhibition and will now be repeated on its closing day.

In the exhibition, six artists engage directly with the exhibition space. Working across different media, they all share an interest in exploring the space, whether through material, concept or installation. The margins thus become the subject of the exhibition, both as an actual site and as an idea. The participating artists are Daníel Ágúst Ágústsson, Gabi Schillig, Hildur Elísa Jónsdóttir, Iyo Hasegawa, Joe Keys and Shiori Ono. The exhibition is curated by Katrín Björg Gunnarsdóttir and Úlfur Bragi Einarsson.
