Perhaps we should thank Jack White for bringing the spirit of blues rock into the modern era over the past 15 years, keeping one of rock music's oldest genres alive and relevant. White paved the way for bands like The Kills, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Deap Vally, all fronted by charismatic women who celebrate the mix of garage, blues, fuzz rock and riot grrrl punk. And now, an exciting new band has recently parked its rusty van in this territory: Velvet Two Stripes. Finally, a European band ready to compete with the big names on the scene, challenge the boys and prove that young women do indeed have a feel for authentic blues. Their latest album, No Spell For Moving Water, was recorded in Vancouver, WA. Two heavyweights of the rock scene are responsible for its distinctive sound: Vance Powell (mixing, whose credits include The White Stripes and Buddy Guy) and Pete Lyman (mastering, whose credits include Tom Waits and Weezer). What comes next? Always moving forward, always on the move, united as a trio. Sophie, Sara and Franca put it this way: "Music remains the most important thing.
