The collective miniature installation What Is Home for Migrant Beings? will be presented at the Fish Factory Creative Centre in Stöðvarfjörður on Saturday, September 26.
Created by artists Carola, Apolline and Tess, the installation combines puppetry, object art and audiovisual storytelling in an immersive experience exploring ideas of home, migration, belonging and identity. The event invites people of all ages to engage with these themes and consider the different ways we create a sense of home and connection to the places where we live. The installation is part of HOME, a community arts project that aims to build bridges between artists, migrant women and local communities. HOME continues the migrant women’s story circles first developed through the Sæhjarta project in 2025, creating spaces where migrant women can share and listen to experiences of migration through objects, drawing, textiles, scents, free writing and other forms of artistic expression. This year, five migrant women’s circles have already taken place, with the most recent gathering held in Reyðarfjörður in August and bringing together 16 women from Fjarðabyggð, Egilsstaðir and Seyðisfjörður. The HOME project continues this autumn with activities at both the Fish Factory Creative Centre in Stöðvarfjörður and Sláturhús Art Center in Egilsstaðir. What Is Home for Migrant Beings? will also be presented at Sláturhús as part of the programme. The Stöðvarfjörður programme continues the following day with: Sunday, September 27, 13:00–15:00 Wonder Houses – Children’s Workshop Led by Carola and Tess as part of BRAS In this hands-on workshop, children will explore ideas of home and belonging through objects, storytelling and creative making. An online introductory meeting will also be held for anyone interested in learning more about the HOME project and the wider process behind it.
