Grell had only just come together and formed as a band when the five lads from Neumünster found themselves competing in the Baltic Band Contest in Damp and taking first place. With newfound confidence and a producer on board, further first-place finishes followed in various contests, during which their unique blend of rock and punk, rap and metalcore attracted an ever-growing fanbase. Songs such as “Flutlicht” (2024) and “Jugendlicher Wahn(sinn)” (2025) are celebrated by bearded metalheads just as much as by hip-hoppers in Air Jordans. The band create a sonic hybrid that blurs the boundaries of subcultures, gives a middle finger to genre labels, and wipes the floor with the haters. Despite this – or perhaps because of it – Grell have become a force to be reckoned with in the German underground music scene whose concerts are loved and celebrated for their escalating energy. Anyone who wants to see one of the country’s most exciting new bands live before the hype kicks in will get their chance here in September.
