Since her debut EP ‘Slugeye’(2022)right through to her first festival gigs, it’s been a wild ride for Maddy Haenlein, aka Gretel. The young singer-songwriter burst onto the London music scene almost out of nowhere and, with her captivating vocal presence and knack for quirky, energetic hooks, was promptly picked up by the UK’s leading publications – BBC 6 Music, NME, Clash Magazine and The Independent all hailed Gretel as a uniquely talented rock innovator. Her first gig in the British capital sold out in a matter of minutes. By the time she’d played at Coachella and the Glastonbury Festival, the indie artist’s grungy goth-pop was already being talked about by everyone. Today, just as back then, she’s surrounded by a lot of hype – and has continued to live up to it time and again, not just with her electrifying live shows but also through her second EP, ‘Head Of The Love Club’ (2023). Now her debut album ‘Squish’ (2026) has been released, opening the next chapter in an artistic journey that will undoubtedly continue for a long time to come and hold many surprises in store. So it’s high time she performs her songs in a stripped-back style at this year’s Reeperbahn Festival.
