Plainhead’s songs capture those moments when the world looks warm but feels incredibly cold – moments that words alone can’t convey. With guitar and clarinet, hazy vocals and half-remembered loops, the band drifts through sepia-toned dreamscapes, passing memories of a breezy summer. “You Are More Than A Thousand Words” (2025) is their second album and presents the indie chamber orchestra disengaged from the frantic standstill of our times, stretching out across the night sky. The songwriting here is marked by a disarming humility that penetrates deeply, very deeply, into our own inner lives. Yes, it’s all very romantic, yes, it’s also kind of about love and so on, but perhaps, for once, not for the individual, but unconditionally for others. In an age of hyper-individualisation and ‘maxxer’ culture, this is probably not the hottest talking point – but it is a message that’s as timeless as this music. Without a doubt one of the most interesting contemporary German music projects. Tissues will be pretty much essential for this show.
