From its pride of place at the top of Mt Eden Road, this much revered venue has played host to the biggest names in the business, allowing local music lovers to witness headliners like Beastie Boys, the Ramones, Soundgarden and Run-DMC up close and personal.
A firm favourite of performers and audiences alike, the Powerstation has secured its place in music history courtesy of its acclaimed acoustics, a guaranteed clear line of vision from any vantage point and a central city location spitting distance from the CBD. This triple-threat of assets has allowed the Powerstation to secure top-tier artists usually booked for anonymous arena shows rather than the small, perfectly formed performances this celebrated music destination ensures.
Over the Powerstation's storied history, heavyweights like Radiohead, The Pixies, Public Enemy, Marilyn Manson, Television, Snoop Dogg and Kendrick Lamar have all tread its boards, and in the past 12 months alone this tally of headline-grabbing appearances has been added to with shows from Nas, Elbow, Johnny Marr, Flying Lotus and The War on Drugs.
With six years in the care of owner-operators Muchmore Music, who have invested time and money to ensure it remains Auckland’s preeminent music venue, the Powerstation is in very safe hands.
