More than 80 years ago, the military airbase Twenthe was built by local people. It survived the Second World War, but only after being conquered by the Germans and bombed by the Allies. While the Dutch air force no longer occupies the terrain, the radar is still operational and in use by Schiphol’s air traffic control.
