About
Based in Madrid but stylistically and mentally more influenced by late-90s California, Elena Nieto has been doing exactly what she fancies ever since she launched her project, YAWNERS. The charming Spaniard’s sound blends the electrifying riffs of Weezer and Pavement, whilst the crashing drums and authentic vocals are often reminiscent of early Green Day or Sum 41 – only wrapped up in beautiful Spanish and Spanglish. To top it all off, the songwriting on albums such as their international breakthrough, “Just Calm Down” (2019), and the no-less-acclaimed follow-up, “Duplo” (2022), is characterised by an uncompromising DIY philosophy that conjures up images of spontaneously organised gigs in secondary school sports halls. Power pop and punk, indie and emo come together in this band’s repertoire to create the ultimate coming-of-age soundtrack that established itself as a crowd favourite at last year’s Primavera Sound in Barcelona. With their latest album, “Superbucle” (2025), and other fresh material, YAWNERS will be coming to Hamburg for the first time this year.
